My Menu of COMPETENCIES

I'm currently a fundraiser, a technology manager, and an experienced, versatile communications consultant — never in that order, but often at once. I have worked in the profit and not for profit sectors. I’ve been both a leader and an employee.

I bring a considerable suite of skills, abilities, and experience honed through 20+ years of collaboration with a diverse set of public, private and non-profit sector clients, mostly in the Alberta market.

Specialities:

Fundraising strategy, design and layout, internal and external communications, social media, sage advise on issues management, managing community relations, writing and editing… and I can also run like the wind! (A slow, gentle wind…)

Interests:
I have some evolving interests that include: current events, education, art (of all kinds), publishing, writing, and outdoor running. I like eating too.

Competencies:
My strongest competency is creativity. I can operate most of the standard software tools required for modern digital output. I can also write, coordinate events, project manage complex assignments, and shoot still and motion imagery. I’m good with people and pets.

In addition to creativity I am governed by:

  • Concern for Image Impact
This is an awareness of how one's self, one's role and the organization are seen by others. The highest level of this competency involves an awareness of, and preference for, garnering respect for the organization by the community.

  • Initiative
This involves identifying a problem, obstacle or opportunity and taking appropriate actions to address current or future problems or opportunities. As such, initiative can be seen in the context of proactively doing things.

  • Innovation
This involves continued effort to identify opportunities and improve performance by doing new things or by doing old things differently.

  • Planning, Organizing and Coordinating
This involves proactively planning, establishing priorities and allocating resources. It involves monitoring and adjusting work to accomplish goals and deliver on the organization's mandate.

  • Results
This is about surpassing personal or organizational standards of excellence. Every. Time.

  • Service
This is a desire to identify and serve customers/clients, like the public, boards of directors, and co-workers. It means focusing one’s efforts on discovering, understanding and meeting the needs of those around you.

  • Teamwork and Co-operation
This is the ability to work co-operatively within diverse teams, work groups and across the organization to achieve group and organizational goals. It includes the ability to understand and respond effectively to other people from diverse backgrounds.

  • Sense of Humour
This is the ability to laugh at the hilarity and absurdness of all of the above and life itself. (At the right time, in the right way…)

My work profile also includes:

  • The ability to synthesise, generate, and pursue collaborative ideas.

  • Strong judgment and a demonstrated ability to react quickly to changing priorities… and wild animals.

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage and follow multiple projects at once.

  • Controlling my eye twitching, to tap out basic Morse Code, if required.

  • Strong writing and editing skills.

  • Knowledge of emerging visual storytelling formats and experience packaging visual content in compelling ways across platforms.

  • Much experience in graphic design for print and web and some video.

  • Willingness to embrace change and learn new tasks and a desire to experiment with new visual and digital storytelling formats.

  • Ability to work in high-pressure environments under brain-popping deadline constraints.

  • Ability to forge positive team relationships and keen to work on teams that value collaboration and transparency.

  • Strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and have a stellar driving record because I never drive above 50 km/hr.

  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including early starts, late finishes (if by late you mean by 9 pm).

  • Holding bonafide university degrees (2) and (1) a swanky college diploma.
